RIATest CASE STUDY:
United States of America
U.S.-based Spectrum K12 School Solutions, Inc. provides a comprehensive Student Achievement Management solution suite that manages, administers and prescribes the personalized learning process and data required for all students so school districts can Move Every Child Forward®. As one of the largest providers in the field, their patented solutions include Response to Intervention (RTI) and Special Education Individual Education Plan (IEP) software serving 11% of the U.S. K-12 population, including 20 of the top 100 districts.
The company was awarded the 2009 CODiE Award for “Best K12 Enterprise Solution” and 2008 CODiE Award for “Best Education Solution” by the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA). The CODiE Awards are among the most prestigious in the software industry, showcasing the finest software and digital content products and services across a wide variety of categories.
Spectrum K12 use a combination of testing technologies to test their software, including since March 2009, RIATest.
Their software stack comprises Java on the backend and Flex on the frontend. Flex 3.0 is used on the client side. Before using RIATest their frontend regression testing was carried out manually which was slower and more prone to errors.
Vice President of R&D, Ram Venkataraman, explains how they now use RIATest.
“We use RIATest in two ways. Firstly, we use RIATest as our baseline regression test suite. Prior to starting any product release, we build a test plan and write RIAtest scripts as we develop the product. This provides us with an ever-growing suite of regression tests. Secondly, as part of our QA cycle and our customer support process, we create RIATest scripts for any high priority defects that arise and add them to the regression script. The complete set of scripts is run prior to every commercial release to ensure the quality of that release.”
Ram continues “RIATest has helped us accelerate our release process while enhancing the quality of our product. When we have needed them, we have found their technical people to be very responsive to our questions and we look forward to continuing to include it in our testing process for the foreseeable future.”
Spectrum K12 uses a combination of Professional Named User and Runner licences and have upgraded at the end of 2009 from version 2 to version 3.1.
